A small cello, only 78.5 cm long, which the player hangs on a strap around his neck.
The five strings of the viola pomposa (as the cello da spalla is also called) are tuned in fifth intervals and produce a particularly soft, warm, slim, but still cello-typical sound.
It is attached to the belt on the chest and thrown onto the right shoulder, so to speak, and has nothing that can stop or prevent its resonance in the slightest.
